On Saturday 3rd June the annual Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade British Marching Band Championships will be taking place at the indoor arena at Northwood Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent. This event has become a popular fixture in the calendar for both The Boys’ Brigade UK & RoI and The Girls’ Brigade England & Wales – Official Page bands and is always very well attended. Organisers, however, have always been conscious of units that may not be full blown marching bands, and so could not really participate in our event, and have been keen to offer something for them too.
After a significant amount of behind the scenes work with DCUK : Drum Corps United Kingdom and SoundSport, we’re pleased to announce that we will be running a SoundSport class for Brigade units at our Championships in June.
SoundSport is designed to offer units of any style the opportunity to perform and be rewarded but not be disadvantaged by to smaller membership numbers.
Contest organiser, Ray Westbrook, said “There are over 100 performing groups within the Brigade and we were looking for a way of being able to integrate more of them into our Championships, plus providing valuable experience for our younger members, and this ticked all the boxes. It made perfect sense to use the SoundSport brand to help these units.”
“We are delighted to be able to help Ray and his team offer additional performance opportunities within their Championships”, added Alan Thompson on behalf of SoundSport and DCUK, “and are really looking forward to seeing what the units have to show us on the 3rd June”.
Any Brigade performing groups, marching or static, that would like to be part of this inaugural event should contact firstname.lastname@example.org
